Homework Assignment Sheet  for Unit 3

Circle: After watching Memory Hackers, would you want to get ride of any memories?

Quiz in class: Label and explain all the parts of a neuron.

Unit 3: The Brain-Everything Psychological is simultaneously Biological

Learning Targets:
What are neurons, and how do they transmit information?
How do nerve cells communicate with other nerve cells?
How do neurotransmitters influence behavior, and how do drugs and other chemicals affect neurotransmission?
What are the functions of the nervous system’s main divisions?
How does the endocrine system – the body’s slower information system – transmit its messages?
How do neuroscientists study the brain’s connections to behavior and mind?
What are the functions of important lower-level brain structures?
What functions are served by the various cerebral cortex regions
What do split brains reveal about the functions of our two brain hemispheres?


Due Today, October 9th Homework: Using the same format as the class activity above, watch the the NOVA program and do a brief write up (no more than a page) about the implications from the show.  (Think in terms of your own life, society, education, crime, etc.)  Please use specific examples from the documentary to support your implications.PBS NOVA Memory Hackers.  If this link does not work just go to Youtube and search Memory Hackers.  Its the first hit.  It is 1 hour 9 minutes long.  It also might just be the school server that is blocking it.  You might have to watch on your phone or wait till you are home.  If you have any problems please let me know.

Activity: With your group, research online effective ways to remember parts of the brain.  Be ready to share what you found with the class.
