Your paper/presentation should demonstrate an understanding of the six perspectives and how you believe they impact both positively and negatively on students success. I would suggest that you break the paper/presentation up into six sections that individually address each perspective as well as an introduction and conclusion. This paper/presentation is due February 26th.

If you could start HS all over again, what would you do different and why?
Learning Target:
Student will understand the six major psychological perspectives.
Writing Assignment:
What do you have to know before you can figure out how to help a student succeed from a psychologists/psychiatrist perspective?
Question Activity:
You will be preparing questions for Mr. Springer. Using what you know about the six perspectives, your teacher interviews, as well as the transcript analysis, create questions for Mr. Springer that will give you a better understanding of why some students are so successful while other struggle. The expectation is that you will have a number of questions for Mr. Springer. You will be taking notes to use in a more detailed report.

Breaking into groups you will investigate these transcripts. What can you tell me about the person in each? How do we explain their record in school? What could influence them? What might there home-life be like? Friends? Childhood? etc.

Activity forClass:
Interviewing adults in building about biggest influences in students academic achievement? What can we really do about it?
You will be interviewing staff in the building using the questions generated the in class. Going out in groups of two or three you will conduct interviews using the transcripts.
For the interview process make sure you do the following:
1. Introduce your self
2. Explain that this is part of your Psychology class
3. Use the transcripts as the basis for you questioning.
4. Make sure to record the staff responses.
5. Thank the staff for their time.
Homework:
Start in class, how would you explain using the perspectives why one of these students did so poorly in school while the other had great success?

You will be broken up into groups. You will first introduce yourself and find out what their favorite cartoon was as a child. Introduce Six Major Psychological Perspectives/Hand/Definition of Psychology
Perspectives Activity: New student comes to school. Doesn't really make much effort to get to know people. Sits by himself in class and the cafeteria. Has poor attendance and doesn't do any homework. Does not like to talk in class and refuses to work in groups to the point he becomes very agitated. He is failing most of his classes and it appears that he is not using the best personal hygiene practices. In other words, he smells.

Perspectives Activity: Generate a list of famous people who have acted in bizarre or inappropriate manners. What was the behavior and how would you explain the behavior using the six perspectives. You will be doing this in groups of 2-3 and you will put together a brief presentation explaining how each perspective would explain the behavior.
Homework:Self Assessment Activity
Reflecting on your homework and school performance why do you think you do good, average or poorly in school. You must use the perspectives to explain your behavior. This should address grades, homework completion, relationships with teachers, relationships with peers, intelligence, self-confidence and outlook on your future. Please use the attached sheet to complete this assignment.
